This was our church’s first mission trip. I didn’t know what to expect.
I’m not one for travel, I never was, but I went, plainly because I felt it was expected of me.
After church and lunch on Sunday, it was time to go. Before leaving, however, I completed my goal of high-fiving every signal person at my church. That was enough to get me pumped.
After that I made goals for everything we did. “High-five five people at this event” “Talk to 1 person at this event” And soon this grew into what I called “Random High-Five”.
This is when the trip got fun.
The entire trip I also found myself singing to myself popular songs I remembered. Popular songs turned to church songs. Church songs turned to my own songs. After a while I was singing every five minutes.
Turing a moment of silence when we were to talk to God, I found my head filled with songs I hadn’t heard in a while, along with a large shining hand reached out open palmed.
I felt God speak to me though music, and I spread his joy though high-fives.
This may sound strange. But a High-Five shows joy as much as a peppy song. Both are ways I spread the happiness of the Lord this week.
