Sometimes God uses the most unexpected people to remind us of His truths. One of our trip participants, Doug, describes such a moment during his week in Nashville.

After doing work projects all morning at Lexington Gardens, we went to play with children at a recreation center. I was tired, grumpy, and not at all feeling full of the Spirit.

One girl brought over face paints, and I was determined that I would not get my face painted. Paint on my arm was okay, but the line was drawn there.

As I was about to leave the room, a little boy stopped me. He couldn’t have been older than five. He grabbed my arm and led me back to a table. He sat me down and told me he was going to paint my face. I looked into this child’s eyes and surrendered.

Ok, I guess I am going to get my face painted.

He proceeded to dip his brush into yellow paint and drew a sun around my entire face, with sunbeams going back around my bald head, ears, and neck.

He took a step back, looked at me with great satisfaction, and said, You are the shining light of God.

Before I knew it, I was met with the tune of “This Little Light of Mine.”

As I sat listening to his sweet voice, I felt the Holy Spirit move and was humbled. I came with the expectation to serve the children at this rec center and ended up being ministered to by a five-year old.
